I wanted to crawl out of my skin.
I’d just woken up in a stranger’s apartment after my first spontaneous night out in over twenty years… and this man was inches from my face staring directly at my teeth.
Not my eyes.
My teeth.
I pulled the blanket over my mouth immediately.
“Oh my God.”
“What?” he asked.
“You were LOOKING at my teeth?”
He leaned back against the headboard completely calm.
“You smile in your sleep.”
I was already embarrassed enough.
But then he said something that genuinely changed how I think about whitening forever.
“You have beautiful teeth,” he said.
“They’re just stained.”
And honestly?
That hit me harder than it should have.
Because deep down, I knew exactly what he meant.
Years of:
• coffee
• red wine
• tea
• aging
• whitening strips
• whitening toothpaste
…had left my teeth looking dull no matter what I tried.
Not dirty.
Not unhealthy.
Just older.
The kind of yellowing that slowly makes you stop smiling in photos without even realizing it.
I started covering my mouth when I laughed.
Smiling with my lips closed.
Tilting my face downward in pictures.
You tell yourself it’s not a big deal… until one day you realize you haven’t fully smiled in years.
